Agatha

Agatha is a play by Margritte Duras, Directed By Julie van den Berghe for the Münchner Kammerspiele.

On stage there are two actors and two musicians, bass clarinetist Ulrich Wangenheim and myself.

The stage has three levels: a basement beneath the stage, the stage and a balcony. On these three levels there are three different piano's. In the basement is a piano you cannot see, but which sound is projected through a hole in the stage floor. On stage there is a piano thickly wrapped in blankets and on the balcony stands a piano with a steel plate instead of strings. The hammers of this piano are all modified in different ways to evoke different percussive sounds on the steel.
